The Philippines has thousands of properties the grid and the fiber crews will never reach on any useful timeline: upland farms in Toledo and the sugarcane belt around Bogo, coconut and orchard land in Bohol's interior, mountain barangays behind Cebu City, off-grid homes, remote worksites, and eco-resorts that were never built on a utility line. For all of them, the question used to be "which compromise do we accept?" — slow LTE, a shared fixed-wireless tower, or nothing at all.
Starlink changed the answer. It is now the most practical satellite internet alternative for remote areas in the Philippines, and it works anywhere with a clear view of the sky. But an off-grid install is not the same as a suburban rooftop install. Who this setup is for
We design off-grid and remote-area installs for a handful of property types across the Visayas:
- Upland and mountain barangay homes where the fiber build-out stops at the highway.
- Farms and agribusiness operations — sugarcane, mango, coconut, poultry, and aquaculture sites that need connectivity for logistics, buyers, weather data, and remote monitoring.
- Remote worksites — construction camps, mining and quarrying operations, and survey teams that move or expand.
- Off-grid homes and cabins running fully or partially on solar.
- Eco-resorts and campgrounds that market the remoteness but still need guest WiFi.
If your property is remote but not off-grid — meaning you have stable mains power — your setup is simpler: read the standard installation cost breakdown and you're most of the way there. The sections below focus on the parts that change when the grid is weak or absent.
Step 1: Site selection and obstruction assessment
Starlink needs a clear view of the sky, and in a valley or under tree canopy, that's the whole project. Before anything is mounted we assess three things:
Sky visibility. The dish needs an unobstructed cone above it. A hilltop clearing, a rooftop above the treeline, or a purpose-built pole are all workable; a spot under a mango tree is not. The Starlink app's obstruction checker is the first tool we open on any remote site.
Elevation and exposure trade-offs. The open spot with the best sky view is often the most weather-exposed spot. That's the right trade — you can engineer a mount for typhoon wind (more below), but you can't engineer around a blocked satellite signal.
Cable distance. Every additional metre between dish and router adds cost and voltage-drop considerations. On farm sites we often place the dish on a pole at the field edge and run cable back to the farmhouse or site office. Starlink's standard cable reaches 15 metres comfortably; beyond that we plan conduit, proper outdoor-rated runs, and in some cases the longer cable options available for the V4.

Step 2: Hardware — which dish for remote use
All three tiers we carry work off-grid; the choice depends on the use case:
- Starlink Mini — ₱31,999. Ultra-portable, USB-C powered, draws very little power. This is the natural pick for solar-powered cabins, mobile worksites, and farms that need connectivity at a field office rather than a full building network. It's the only dish that genuinely makes sense to run entirely from a small solar bank.
- Starlink V4 — ₱35,500. The standard for farmhouse, ranch-house, and eco-resort installs where the whole household or operation needs full-speed WiFi. More throughput than the Mini, but it draws more power and needs a proper mount.
- Flat High Performance — contact us. For vehicles, vessels, and worksites that relocate. We quote the bracket and rigging per use case.
Most remote-area residential and farm installs land on the Mini or the V4. If you're unsure which fits, talk to us about your site — the power budget usually decides it.
Step 3: Power planning — the part people underestimate
An off-grid install lives or dies on its power plan. Two scenarios cover most sites:
Sites with weak but present grid power. Brownouts and voltage swings are the enemy. A UPS on the router and, for the dish, a small inverter-battery setup keeps the connection alive through short outages — which in parts of north Cebu and the island municipalities is a daily event, not an exception. We size the battery to ride through the typical outage window for your area.
Fully off-grid sites. Solar plus battery. The Mini can run from a modest panel-and-battery setup — it sips power over USB-C. The V4 needs a proper energy budget: plan for the dish's continuous draw plus the router, and size the panel array and battery bank for the monsoon months when solar input drops for days at a stretch. If you already run a solar system, we coordinate with your installer to add a dedicated circuit for the network gear.
The single most common off-grid mistake we see is undersizing power for the wet season. A system tuned to bright-February conditions goes dark in July.
Step 4: Mounting for exposed sites
Remote sites are usually the most weather-exposed sites — ridgelines, coastal flats, open farmland with no windbreak. The included kickstand is fine for testing, not for living with a typhoon belt. We install heavy-duty, typhoon-rated mounting on every remote install: bolted roof brackets with expansion anchors into structural concrete, wall-mounted poles sized for wind loading, or heavy-base free-standing masts where penetration isn't possible.

For farm and field installs there's one extra rule: cable protection along the ground run. Cables crossing open ground or fence lines get conduit and elevation, or they get chewed, abraded, or cut by the first implement that passes over them.
Step 5: Installation, realistically costed
Our professional installation starts at ₱12,000. That covers a straightforward mount, standard cabling, router placement, and a full speed test and handover. Remote and off-grid sites usually carry some additions:
- Travel. Installs outside Metro Cebu — Toledo, Bogo, Danao, and the islands — incur a flat travel fee, credited toward the install if you proceed.
- Extended cable runs and conduit for dish-to-building distances beyond the standard run.
- Upgraded mounting for ridgeline, pole, or open-field placements.
For a farm install in the Toledo hills with a V4, a 30-metre conduit run, and a pole mount: roughly ₱47,500 + travel and hardware, landing around ₱53,000-60,000 total. For a solar-powered cabin running a Mini with self-setup and only the base install: ₱31,999 + ₱12,000 = ₱43,999.
Both are one-time costs. The recurring cost is the Starlink subscription, billed by Starlink directly — we don't mark it up, and there's no hardware rental.
What changes after the install
Off-grid systems need a different maintenance rhythm than suburban installs:
- Battery and UPS checks every few months — they're the component most likely to fail quietly.
- Vegetation management. Trees grow. A dish that was clear in September can be obstructed by new growth before the next dry season. We flag likely growth during the install and re-check at maintenance visits.
- Post-storm inspection. After a named typhoon passes, walk the mount and cable run using our checklist — small problems caught early are cheap.
